What is the difference between Ircd and shell hosting?

I want to start up my own IRC server. What are the different types of accommodation available, and no one can recommend a hosting provider?

If a daemon running on the ircd IRC Server for you. You only control – no other aspects of the server.
Shell means the accommodation that you can log into the server and run all the commands that you like, probably through ssh. That means you can run an IRC daemon, but if too many more things as a Web server. It is also difficult to configure and maintain.
I recommend http://www. cheapvps. co. uk / or http://vpslink. com / for a shell server. Both are virtual private servers, so it is as if an entire team itself, and you need the administrator. There are multiple virtual servers on a real machine.
I'm afraid I've never used IRC dedicated hosting I can not comment on that.
